2009-2010 Season Outlook

This year the OSU Women's Club Hockey team is off to a fresh start under the guidance of new Head Coach John Damrath, Alumni of Ohio State and former goaltender for the Ohio State Men's Varsity team, and returning goalie coach Dan North. Here Coach Damrath shares his views on the outlook and expectations for the season.

Keys to our success will be our goaltending, which until this year had not seen much playing time. Junior Allie Mackerty (Macedonia, OH) and Sophomore Lindsey Roshon (Ottawa Hills, OH) look to share the netminding duties.

We are solid on defense with 3 sophomores, Elaina Jones (Homer, NY), Betsy Franke (Oxford, OH) and Lis Thomas (Courtice, Ont). Freshman Kelsey Bisson (Bath, OH) will also add strength to our “D”.

Scoring was difficult to come by last season. This year, the experience of 7 returning forwards, including Senior, Amanda Keeton (LaPorte, IN) and a move of Junior, Amanda Robinson (Centerville, OH) to center is expected to produce more offense. Sophomore Center Laura Buntemeyer (Lakeville, MN) is strong on face-offs and expected to lead the offense. Junior, Emily Moersdorf (Worthington, OH), who has been selected to the 2009 ACHA Women's National Select Team, will add experience and leadership at forward as well as on defense. Junior Jenni Brannon (Dublin, OH) adds play-making on the wing. A new “spark” has been added to the offense with incoming freshman Amanda Schneider (Strongsville, OH) who is expected to combine with last season’s scoring leader, Amanda Damrath (Novi, MI) on offense. Adding to the team’s depth on offense are Sophomores Tessa McAnnally (Gibsonia, PA), Junior Meredith Motz (Deerfield, NH) and Junior Abigail McAtee (Dayton, OH).

The Buckeyes first home series begins November 7th with a 5:15 pm face off with Western Michigan University and continues on November 8th at noon. GO BUCKS!
