Liz Gelber joined the team for the 2004-05. Gelber finished her first year as a Buckeye playing a very important and thankless role as the back-up to graduated player Crystal (Stiteler) Ott. "I know what it is like to sit on the bench as a back-up. We as coaches may not say it enough, but it is an incredibly important role to the team and our strategy." Coach Maxwell continues on Gelber's role for the season; "With Dan North’s help, I look forward to seeing Gelber develop into a starting quality goaltender in the very short term."
2005-06 Season Gelber won her first two starts of the year. She stopped 45 of 49 shots for the two game series against Michigan State.
2004-05 Season Gelber finished her rookie season 2:12 minutes of ice time, stopping 50 of 66 shots. She saw her first ice time in the third period of the November 7 Western Michigan game, stopping 8 of 13. Her first start came in the teams next game, November 13. A road game against Penn State at which she saved 25 for 30 shots.
