Amanda Schneider came to the Buckeyes with a strong hockey background. Hailing from Northeast Ohio, Schneider grew up playing boy's youth hockey with the Parma Heights Wings and the Strongsville Mustangs, later to join the Ohio Flames Women's Hockey program for six years. With the Flames (and along with fellow OSU Women's Club Hockey player Kelsey Bisson), Schneider traveled to the Midwest Elite Hockey League Nationals three times, going as a captain during the 2006-2007 season and assistant captain in the 2007-2008 season.
Off the ice and in the class room, Schneider is an excellent student. A member of the National Honor Society in her junior and senior year at Strongsville High School, she graduated with an honors diploma and a 4.0 GPA and also received the Mid-West Elite Hockey League Academic All-Star Award during her last two years with the Ohio Flames. Along with her excellent academic performance, Schneider was active in extra curricular activities as a member of the Strongsville Marching Band for three years, and in girl scouts throughout high school. Schneider also had her art showcased in the Cleveland Museum of Art her senior year as a winner of the Scholastic Art Competition Silver Key Award.
